2022 NAB League Girls Player of the Week: Round 7
GOLD Coast Suns Academy midfielder Alana Gee is the Rookie Me Central NAB League Girls Player of the Week for Round 7. The Sunshine State standout shone as her side entered the competition for a one-game stint, leading all comers with a round-high 34 disposals, four marks, five tackles, and seven inside 50s as the Suns defeated reigning premier, Oakleigh by 15 points on Sunday.
Regarded as a top 10 talent nationwide and certainly the best among her fellow Queenslanders, Gee was pegged as one to watch as northern academies entered the NAB League realm. She fully lived up to the billing, showcasing a blend of exciting athletic traits and natural footballing nous to utterly dominate through the middle.
Gee becomes the second non-Victorian to take out Player of the Week honours in 2022, after Tasmanian forward Georgia Clark got the nod in Round 5. She is the third AFLW Academy member to do so, and the second in a row with Oakleigh’s Jasmine Fleming putting her name in lights last week. Gee included, five of the seven Player of the Week nominees this season have been top-agers (2004-born).
Over the course of three games in the past six months, Gold Coast has proven the stronger of two Queensland academies. The Suns have beaten the Brisbane Lions Academy each time and proved more than up to Victorian competition. Next, Gee and her side will again face their local rivals before preparing for the 2022 AFLW Under 18 National Championships in April.
