QAFLW Round 4 Preview: Back from the break and back into action

AFTER what might be a handy Easter break for some sides, the QAFLW is back on Saturday for some Round 4 action. Let us take a look at what is in store in the Sunshine State this weekend.

Reigning premiers the University of Queensland have certainly been proving thus far this season why they are the reigning champions, and they will look to continue their good form this week against the currently winless Yeronga South Brisbane. They put Wilston Grange to bed early last weekend and will certainly be hoping to put together a similar performance tomorrow.

The Devils have not had the most ideal start to the season, but coming off the preseason that they had had, it was always going to be a rocky start to the season for them. The recent floods certainly impacted the Devils one of the hardest, so will be keen to just build some momentum in the middle half of this season.

When asked what his message would be to his troops this week, University of Queensland coach Ross Clayfield highlighted something that no doubt would be on the minds of not only his QAFLW counterparts but state league coaches around the country.

“It’s an interesting time,” he said. “Obviously in state leagues at the moment you’ve got a lot of players focused on a potential draft for AFLW. We’re not sure when that is yet, so I guess the danger is that it becomes a little bit about that and not so much the team kind of things. So we’re trying to I guess find that balance between doing the right thing by the individuals in our team and help them put their names forward and play some great footy, but certainly not at the expense of the team.”

In other matches this weekend, Southport will be looking to continue their stellar start to their debut season in the top grade when they take on Wilston Grange out at Hickey Park.

Bond University will certainly want to maintain its undefeated run when they host Aspley, while Coorparoo and Maroochydore will both be looking to bounce back from losses last week as they take on each other.

QAFL WOMEN’S ROUND 5 FIXTURE:

Wilston Grange vs Southport
Bond Uni vs Aspley
Coorparoo vs Maroochydore
University of Queensland vs Yeronga South Brisbane
