Preview | Can Aspley continue its giant killing QAFLW run?

THERE is one more round before yet another break in the 2022 QAFLW season, presenting one last chance for teams to utilise some momentum before their well deserved time off.

The pick of the matches this weekend is looking like the clash between Southport and Aspley out at Fankhauser Reserve.

Since coming into the competition this year, Southport has certainly proven it belongs at the top flight. The Sharks are undefeated thus far this season, and have been for the most part comfortably winning all their matches by a decent margin.

They come up against an Aspley side this week no doubt feeling a world of confidence after managing to topple the highly fancied Bond University last week.

One player that Aspley will need to be wary off is Brittany Perry. The Suns and Sharks forward has been on fire in front of the big sticks this season, kicking big bags of multiple goals on several occasions.

Meanwhile for the Hornets, their forward line is so varied that Southport will have plenty to keep them occupied in defence.

Rachel Vetter has kicked plenty of snags, but then there is also the taller targets of the likes of Michaela Campbell, the smaller targets of the likes of Abby Hewett and the quicker targets of players like Courtney Daniec.

Southport will probably go into the match as favourites, but Aspley will go into the match with a world of confidence after toppling Bond so do not count them out just yet.

Around the other grounds, Yeronga South Brisbane has another tough match up this week, set to contend with a Bond University side keen to avenge last week’s shock loss.

University of Queensland plays host to Coorparoo, while Wilston Grange will travel up the highway to face Maroochydore.
