Grand Final rematch mark two highlights return of QAFLW
AFTER a competition wide bye last weekend, the Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL) Women’s is back and ready to go as it hits the halfway mark of its season.
Although Mother Nature may have other things to say, at this stage among the highlights of this weekend’s action is the second instalment this season of the Grand Final rematch.
Fans will get to enjoy the Battle of the Universities again this weekend as Bond University plays host to the reigning premiers, University of Queensland (UQ).
Last time around it was an enthralling encounter with nothing able to split the sides. A late behind from Kadie Fletcher ensured that the match that particular evening would end in a draw. Both sides had players who played very well that evening that will no doubt feature prominently again this time around.
Alongside Fletcher, expect the likes of Luka Yoshida-Martin and Megan Hunt to play well, while for the Bull Sharks Mikayla Pauga was particularly impressive. Last time was the first time all season either side had dropped any points, but things have been very different since the sides last met back in Round 2.
Firstly, both sides have had a loss since then. Bond lost to Aspley in Round 4 while UQ had a shocker against Coorparoo only two weeks ago.
Still, if last time around is anything to go by, expect one hell of an entertaining match that could really go either way.
Around the other grounds, Yeronga South Brisbane have the unenviable task of trying to take down the undefeated Southport, while Wilston Grange will be looking to kickstart its season against Coorparoo. While in the other game Maroochydore travel to Brisbane to take on Aspley.
