Motivated Mitchell has one eye on the present and future
SYDNEY SWAN Alice Mitchell is yet to get her AFLW career off the ground after she was denied by an ACL injury, but is working hard to ensure that dream can happen sooner rather than later.
She is happy with how her recovery process from that injury is going thus far.
“It’s going really well. Started running about a week ago, so all things are progressing well. It’s recovering well after running, so only up from here, well it’s always only up but, it’s going well.”
Although it can be a long and tough journey to come back from an ACL, the motivation of being able to run out with her team mates is what is keeping Mitchell motivated.
“Obviously the end goal is to play next year and that is always at the forefront of my mind. I’m always imagining being out there with the girls and it’s a big motivation watching them out there every single week and just wanting to be out there with them, you just get massive FOMO so I am so excited to be out there and there’s just a really good morale around the club and I’ve got a lot of people behind me, supporting me every step of the way.”
Away from the recovery journey, she just wants to be a positive asset for her team mates who are running out for the Swans each week in their inaugural season.
“Of course trying to get around the girls as much as possible and just being a really positive asset to the team is what I want to do, just get around the girls. It’s been a tough grind the past couple of weeks, but the girls have held their head up high and I just want to get around them as much as I can, then definitely focus on my recovery. That’s definitely at the forefront of my mind and so far going pretty good.”
Despite the tough season the Swans have had not winning a game thus far, Mitchell said that the feeling around the group is still positive.
“Feeling’s good. Like each week we are progressing really well and we’re ticking those boxes, so we’ve just got to put our head down and trust the process. We’re in really good hands with Scott and Kate and all the other staff we’ve got on hand, so we’ve just got to trust the process and keep doing what we’re doing. We’re improving every week and we’ll get a win, it’ll come. It’s coming.”
With only three weeks left in the season, Mitchell said consistency in their footy is the goal for the Swans.
“I think it’s just to play good consistent footy and to make sure we’re ticking our goals and what we want to achieve from each game and that’s what we are doing. We’ve got expectations we want to meet and we’re meeting them, so we’re happy with that. Sometimes the scoreboard doesn’t reflect that, but our game is improving and that’s what we’re focusing on. A win will come when it comes but we don’t want that to be the forefront of our mind because you’re just going to be down in the dumps.”
