TALKING POINTS
Jas Garner – what can’t she do?
Dominating week in, week out this season, Jasmine Garner had another superb game. Her work rate in this game compared to the draw a couple of weeks ago showed, lifting her efforts with the midfield and using her speed and athleticism to get inside forward 50 quickly and go for goal. The tag the Tigers repeated from the draw a fortnight ago did not work, as Garner finished with 22 touches.
Kangaroos momentum from second quarter onwards
After goal for goal from both teams in the first quarter, North Melbourne was able to find that quick ball movement and have the game more on their terms. The likes of Emma King provided headaches for the Tigers backline, while Ash Riddell, Jenna Bruton, Brooke Brown and Emma Kearney working well together through the half-back and midfield, adding the pressure on the Tigers half-forwards/forwards. Whilst it was a team collective effort all round, the experience of North Melbourne, with the experience in high-pressure situations helped the Kangaroos get over the line.
Positive signs for the Tigers ahead
Whilst it is curtains closed for the Tigers in Season 7, the Tigers have come a long way this season. The defensive system of the Tigers has been a huge work, with the likes of Beth Lynch and Libby Graham having a huge season. The number of games won and the built brand of footy is something the Tigers can continue to build on work on during the off-season and go into Season 8.
Farewell, Courtney Wakefield
After the loss of the Tiger’s loss in the semi-final, forward Courtney Wakefield announced her retirement after the match. Having a huge impact in the forward line and being a strong target, being a long serving member since the start, Wakefield will no doubt be missed.
