AFLW Season 7 Finals preview: Brisbane vs Adelaide (Preliminary Final 1)

BRISBANE and Adelaide are familiar foes on the big stage, but for the Season 7 edition, it comes a week earlier than the big dance. Both have won flags against each other, but now only one can advance to the decider to play the winner of either Melbourne or North Melbourne.

FORM

Brisbane come into this clash well rested after their week off, which the Lions earned with a win in their qualifying final a fortnight ago. Adelaide meanwhile had to go the long way to get to the penultimate weekend. After losing in week one of the finals, the Crows overcame both Collingwood and the weather last week to make it to the preliminary final.

HISTORY

These two have quite the history between them. Brisbane and Adelaide have met eight times across the seven seasons of the AFLW, with Brisbane currently ahead on the ledger five wins to three. These eight clashes also include two Grand Finals, with each side having won a flag against the other.

INJURY LIST

Luckily for both of these sides, their injury lists are very short at the moment. Although she ultimately did not return to the side this week, Zimmorlei Farquharson was available for selection after recovering from a finger injury. Meanwhile over at the Crows, Ailish Considine is still recovering from her hamstring injury and is still listed as being a week away from returning.

KEY PLAYERS

As any good final should, there are plenty of enticing match ups right across the ground. It is likely to be Sarah Allan that gets the unenviable task of trying to stop Jesse Wardlaw, which is going to be crucial if Adelaide want to win.

Up the other end Bre Koenen is likely to be the one tasked with stopping Ash Woodland. In the midfield it is Ally Anderson and Emily Bates up against the likes of Anne Hatchard and Teah Charlton.

PREDICTION

It is hard to see Brisbane not winning this. They have been one of two teams to beat all year, they are playing in their home state and they have had the week off. On top of that, it is hard to see the conditions last week and the emotional toll of the death of Heather Anderson this week not having a toll on the Crows.
