Preview | VFLW 2023 Round 2: One last chance to impress

AFTER an exciting opening weekend of the season, it is time once again for another exciting round of VFLW action. Except, this round has added significance to it, even though it is only Round 2.

With the AFLW Overage Draft mere days away, this weekend’s matches will be the last chance for those who have nominated for Tuesday’s draft to make a statement and show why they belong at the next level.

In addition to that, there are a number of big outs across the competition this weekend, so time will tell when kind of impact their absence will have on their respective teams. Among the outs this week from across the competition include Madison Capsalis, Mia-Rae Clifford, Annie Muir, Breanna Beckley, Caitlin Conroy, Alyssa Mifsud, Simone Ruedin and Erin Meade.

On top of all that, Round 2 of any season is normally when you start to get a better picture of where sides are actually at and how they might go this season. Round 1 often does not paint the full picture, so Round 2 can start to give you a better idea of a team’s performance and picture of where they are at.

Among this weekend’s smorgasbord of games is the Grand Final rematch, which closes out the weekend down at Trevor Barker Oval in Sandringham. The Bombers comfortably won on the big stage last year, but the Saints are coming off quite a high last week, it is at their home ground and the Bombers are essentially a brand new side this year. Will history repeat or not?
