2023 Coates Talent League POTW: Round 9

MURRAY Bushrangers star Darcy Wilson is our Coates Talent League Player of the Week for Round 9, despite his side’s 24-point defeat to Northern in Saturday. The midfielder-forward compiled 33 disposals, five inside 50s, six rebound 50s, and a goal to take out this week’s honours.

Wilson continues to stamp his first round credentials, taking another step in a strong top-age season after showing enough promise as a bottom-ager to earn National Academy selection. Across six Talent League games in 2023, he averages 23 touches, six marks, and four inside 50s.

It wasn’t Murray’s day on Sunday, as the Bushies went down for a second time to Northern this year, but Wilson led all comers with more prominent midfield minutes. He covered plenty of ground on Preston City Oval, leaning in his speed, smarts and class to have a real impact on the contest.

He beat out Northern captain William Green for the Player of the Week nod, with the 204cm ruck producing arguably his best performances to date. After a few weeks off, the Bushies will next be in action on Saturday June 24 with a clash against the Western Jets in Wangaratta.

Around the grounds, Gippsland jet Zane Duursma continued his hot run of form with four goals from 19 disposals as the Power beat GWV. Western forward Logan Morris mark a successful return with four majors, while Kayne Rutley and Archer May were also impressive for their respective bags of five.
