2023 AFLW Draft Combine invites announced
EIGHTY three AFL Women’s draft hopefuls have been invited to test at Draft Combines across the nation which will be held throughout September and October. Unlike their male counterparts, the AFLW Draft Combines will take place in six different states or territories, with Victoria boasting 40 players from the Coates Talent League regions of Victoria and Tasmania.
The first event will take place in New South Wales, where 10 players will test at Sydney Olympic Park on Monday, September 25, with the remaining testing events in the month of October. The Victorian testing event will coincide with its Queensland counterpart on October 8, while four players will take part in the Northern Territory testing event.
Completing the month of testing events are those in South Australia and Western Australia, scheduled for Saturday October 14 and Sunday, October 15 respectively.
The physical testing being conducted include the vertical jump, running vertical jump, 20-metre sprint, agility test and 2km time trial.
All 18 AFL Women’s clubs submitted a list of preferred athletes to attend the combines, with selection based on the number of nominations provided by the AFLW recruiters.
The 2023 AFL Women’s Draft is yet to have a confirmed date, with mid-December the period being discussed at present to ensure the off-season is completed prior to Christmas.
