2023 AFLW Draft nominations: Combine invites

ALMOST two thirds of AFLW Draft Combine invitees will be available to each of the 18 clubs after 50 of the 78 players nominated nationally for the December 18 Draft. Eight of the original 86 nominees were taken off the board as part of the pre-listing, with the remaining 78 given the choice of nominating their home state or national. For Tasmanian and Northern Territory prospects, they all nominated nationally over club-ties to North Melbourne and Gold Coast respectively.

The percentage of national nominees were similar across the board with 386 of the 565 nominations electing to go national over their home state – a healthy total of 68 per cent. From the 179 who nominated their home state, 103 nominated Victoria, with 25 apiece from both Queensland and Western Australia, 13 from South Australia and 12 from New South Wales. One Tasmanian – Bridgenorth’s Alice Robinson – nominated her home state which links her to the Kangaroos.

Among the top prospects to nominate nationally, Western Jets tall Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner and Tasmanian small Brooke Barwick will be among the top selections. From across the country, Elaine Grigg (South Australia), Kaitlyn Srhoj and Ella Slocombe (Western Australia), Evie Long (Queensland) and Mel Staunton (New South Wales) were other top prospects in their respective states to opt for national nomination.

South Australian star Piper Window will only be available to Port Adelaide and Adelaide, Georgie Cleaver is accessible by the two West Australian clubs, while Victorians Alyssia Pisano, Mikayla Williamson, Lila Keck and Chloe Adams are some of the top players from their state who will remain there.
