SANFLW 24 to Watch in 2024: Eloise Mackereth

BACK for another year, Rookie Me Central’s 24 to Watch in 2024 returns and this time around, the focus is on underage players, being those who are yet to have an AFLW Draft chance. For the list of 2024, it will range between players who are predominantly 2006 (top-age) and 2007-born talents likely to take the SANFL Women’s by storm or set themselves up for the future.

One of the most exciting bottom-agers burst onto the scene at the AFLW Under 16 Championships in the form of tall forward, Eloise Mackereth. The talented teenager kicked four goals in South Australia’s win over Western Australia, and the form from that saw the double bottom-ager earn three games with Glenelg in the last three weeks of the season.

ELOISE MACKERETH PROFILE

DOB: 27/07/2007
Height: 173cm
Position: Forward/Wing
Club: Glenelg

SUMMARY

Mackereth really announced herself in South Australia’s 29-point win over Western Australia in Joondalup last year, slotting four goals from 14 disposals and five marks. That followed on from an equally impressive 21 touches, three marks and two inside 50s a week early in the Croweaters’ 32-point victory over Vic Metro. She ended up being named on a wing in the Under 16s All-Australian team.

It showed the tall forward’s ability to impact through the midfield as well, and become a player similar to India Rasheed in the future. Still a bottom-ager entering this year, Mackereth has plenty to develop as she had less experience at SANFL Women’s level than some of her peers.

Having to wait until the final three rounds to get a crack, Mackereth held her own, averaging nine disposals, two marks and two tackles, while also kicking her first League goal which came via a contested mark in the goalsquare. Looking dangerous when she went near the ball, her trio of games bodes well for this season where she will be looking to lock down a spot.

Mackereth is is a prototype medium-tall who moves well and disposes of the ball incredibly well. In just her second game at SANFLW level, she had 15 disposals, three marks, two tackles and three inside 50s in a sign of things to come for 2024.
