NTFLW season draws to a close as exciting finals series awaits

The 2023/24 NTFLW season came to an exciting and dramatic conclusion over the weekend, and is now gearing up for what is sure to be an entertaining finals series.

Coming into the 2024 half of the season PINT were the front runners and they stayed the frontrunners. Not losing any of their last seven games (the closest they came was a draw with St Mary’s), they finished a game clear on top and with a percentage gap of over 104% between them and second placed St Mary’s.

The Saints also had a strong back end to the season, also not losing a game for the rest of the year apart from their draw with PINT. The Saints had an even bigger percentage buffer between them and the rest of the competition, and are gearing up for a Qualifying Final this weekend.

Nightcliff and Waratah made up the rest of the top four, and comfortably finished above the rest of the chasing pack.

The fight for that final finals spot did come down to the wire though.

Darwin and Palmerston were the last two left standing for that final spot, and ultimately it was Darwin who ultimately snatched the coveted spot, and Palmerston will rue having a game abandoned earlier in the season.

This left Tiwi, Southern Districts and Wanderers to round out the ladder, and although Tiwi had a big win to finish the year, it was not enough for them to sneak in as they were still a game out of finals even with the win.

All of this sets the stage for a finals series set to kick off this weekend.

As the minor premiers, PINT have earned themselves a week off, and will face the winner of the Qualifying Final between St Mary’s and Nightcliff.

The loser of that match then faces the winner of Waratah and Darwin in the second week of the finals.
