PREVIEW | 2024 WAFLW Round 14: Sunday

THE LAST WAFL Women’s match of Round 4 takes place today between ladder leaders East Fremantle and fourth placed Swan Districts. If the Sharks get up they essentially secure top spot given their percentage gape on the rest, while Swan Districts need to win to just about secure a top four spot.

FORM

East Fremantle has not lost since Round 3 to Claremont, so has strung eight on the trot together over the past few months. The Sharks loom as the clear team to beat, having accounted for every other side and will secure top spot with a win thanks to their massive percentage gap on West Perth and the Tigers. Swan Districts has held onto fourth spot well and it is theirs to lose now after South Fremantle knocked off Subiaco. A loss here does open the door for both those teams, while a win essentially shuts it.

TEAMS

CHANGES

Swan Districts has made the two changes with Brianna Hyde and Tamzyn Beros returning to the side in exchange for Sienna Gerardi and Adi Griffith. The Sharks have made a stack of changes for the clash, with Chloe Reilly and talls Laura Catherine and Sarah Wielstra among the ins, while Ashlee Atkins, Sharon Wong and Leanne Gubbins are among the outs.

AFLW DRAFT TALENT

Bottom-age Swans midfielder Carys D’Addario is a key player for the home side, while top-age talents Lily Paterson and Indiana West are among those to keep an eye on for this year’s AFLW Draft. For the Sharks, Zippy Fish headlines the draft prospects, as defenders Taya Chambers and Natasha Entwistle, and forward Tiani Teakle are among a strong top-age group this year. Bottom-ager Alicia Blizard has been a standout since coming into the side a few weeks back too.

PREDICTION

East Fremantle has too much depth at this stage, though the loss of Gubbins in particular will hurt them. One can never rule the Swans out given their talent across the board, they just come up against a red-hot side in form. Expect it to be close but for East Fremantle to likely be a touch too good.
