PREVIEW | VFLW Round 12 – Sunday

TODAY is a jam packed day of VFLW action with four matches on the menu, and it could be a particularly telling one in the race to the finals.

MATCH OF THE DAY

Casey vs Collingwood
Casey Fields @ 11:05am

HEAD TO HEAD

Today’s meeting will be the eighth time these two sides have met, and the sixth time they have met at the Dees’ home ground Casey Fields. Unfortunately for the Dees though, history swings in Collingwood’s favour. The Pies have won five of the previous seven encounters overall, and four of the five previous clashes at Casey Fields.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Today is the first time these sides have met in 2024, with the last time these sides met being in Round 3 of last season. It was a memorable one for those in black and white, with Collingwood going on to win by 17 points after leading all day.

KEY MATCH UP

MEG MACDONALD VS MAYA ELLIN

The tackle leaders of their respective sides, these two are also core members of their respective midfields. If they are not laying a tackle trying to disrupt the progression of their opponent, they are at the bottom of a pack trying to get the ball out for their team. They are also often the first link in the chain, so keep them quiet and you disrupt your opponent’s systems.

RAMIFICATIONS

It is getting pretty close to D-Day for Collingwood. It is just teetering on the edge of still possibly playing finals, so really cannot afford to drop anymore games. Casey on the other hand is in the top six, but with those behind it on the ladder so close behind Demons, a loss today may seem them drop out of the six, even if only temporarily.
