2024 RM Central SANFLW Team of the Year: Full Squad

FOLLOWING the conclusion of the 2024 SANFL Women’s regular season over the weekend, we named the extended 48-player squad for our annual SANFLW Team of the Year. The full squad is based around our Team of the Weeks that are published following each round, with a minimum of four nominations to qualify automatically.

The criteria to be selected in our SANFL Women’s Team of the Year is that the players must have played seven games minimum (50 per cent) and not be on an AFL Women’s list. That being said, all AFL Women’s listed players in the SANFLW have played less than the seven matches anyway.

Of the 48 players named in the squad, minor premier South Adelaide leads the way with seven, though the Panthers are joined by a surprise packet in Woodville-West Torrens who also had seven nominees. Showing just how even the season has been, four sides have six nominees in Central District, Glenelg, Sturt and West Adelaide, while the evenness of Norwood meant the five Redlegs were named as were five Roosters.

Headlining the square are the likes of club captains Shelby Smith, Jordann Hickey, Jessica Edwards, Kate Harris, Madison Russell and Annie Falkenberg. In terms of State Academy members, a quartet of AFLW Academy members (Charlotte Riggs, Jasmine Evans, Poppy Scholz and India Rasheed) were all named, as were others such as Violet Patterson, Laela Ebert, Esther Schirmer and Monique Bessen.

West Adelaide trio Lucy Boyd, Emma Kilpatrick and Emily Mableson, and Eagles duo Grace Martin and Klaudia O’Neill were also among the squad.

The final Rookie Me Central Team of the Year featuring 24 players will be announced on Sunday, the night before the official SANFLW Team of the Year is revealed.
