2024 AFLW Week 3 Preview: Saturday
TODAY is a historic day in the AFL Women’s as new venues and new matchups are scattered throughout.
- Team
Sydney
Richmond
12:35pm
C.ex Coffs International Stadium, Coffs Harbour
Recent form
Both of these sides have had one win and won loss to start their 2024 campaigns so will be looking to put that ledger into the positive today.
Last time they met
This is the first time these two sides have ever met, so history will be made no matter who wins this afternoon.
Key stat areas
Richmond has a better contested possession game than the Swans so far this season, but the Swans have been doing better than Richmond in the uncontested possession game.
Both sides will be looking to improve their inside 50 efficiencies today as both have been decently less efficient inside 50 than their opponents in the first fortnight of the season.
Key match up/s
Without Chloe Molloy in the lineup, Sofia Hurley is going to really have to step up and provide that connection from midfield into attack Molloy does so well.
However, the Richmond midfield with the likes of Grace Egan and Monique Conti trying to do the same thing going the other way will not be so easy to try and navigate around.
- Team
Carlton
Geelong
2:35pm
Ikon Park
Recent form
Carlton left it late last week to get its first win on the board for 2024, but crucially did manage to get the four points.
Geelong on the other hand also got some points last week after drawing with North Melbourne, but could have just as easily been undefeated after two so close yet so far performances.
Last time they met
It has been a few years since these two have crossed paths, with the last time the sides met being back in Season 6. That particular evening, Carlton won by 14 points after restricting Geelong’s scoring early and kicking away in the second half.
Key stat areas
Carlton has recorded more disposals than Geelong so far this season, but Geelong has been the far more efficient side with ball in hand.
Along the same lines, Geelong has recorded more inside 50s than Carlton but Carlton has been significantly more efficient inside 50 so far this season than Geelong.
Key match up/s
Darcy Vescio is well known for their dangerousness in front of the big sticks, and will be looking to have another big performance at home today. However, they will not have it all their own way today with the intercept prowess of Claudia Gunjaca Vescio’s likely opponent today.
- Team
Port Adelaide
Fremantle
4:35pm
Alberton Oval

Port has also recorded more hit outs than the Dockers this season, but Fremantle has been doing significantly better than the Power in the clearance game.
Key match up/s
Maria Moloney against Aisling McCarthy will be a fascinating battle. Both are tough, no nonsense players that are team first players. Moloney has a particularly important job because Round 1 proved how dangerous McCarthy can be.
