EAST Perth young gun Lucy Greenwood is a promising prospect who always looked dangerous when out there for the Royals, and translated her goal-scoring prowess to the West Australian side. Capable of playing inside 50, on-ball or off a wing, the top-ager is a high-upside talent who adds a point of difference to any side with her strengths.
Q: Lucy, tell us a bit about your football journey?
LG: “I started Auskick when I was like very, very young and then one of my mates got me into community football at Coolbinia. Did a couple of years there until I was the age to move out to East Perth and have been there ever since so it’s pretty good.”
Q: Coming into the state programs as well, what’s that been like?
LG: “A game changer to be honest. I’ve definitely seen myself improve, and very happy with coaching. The support we get throughout the year’s insane, so it’s really, really good.”
Q: What do you see as the strengths in your game?
LG: “Game sense, footy IQ, and then just like kicking, marking, just the basic skills.”
Q: What are you looking to improve on at the moment?
LG: “Definitely endurance. All the coaches are trying to get me better at running for distance, so that is one.”
Q: What AFL/W club do you support?
LG: “Collingwood.”
Q: What’s the story behind that?
LG: “Just family. All my family supported it, so I just jumped on the bandwagon. They’re both from Victoria.”
Q: Are there any players at the top level you look up to or model your game on?
LG: “Probably on the male side, Bobby Hill because I definitely think my game is around him more.”
Q: Who’s had the most individual influence on your career?
LG: “My mum and dad. They’re my biggest supporters so I’d have to say them.”
Q: National Draft, have you had much thought about potentially moving interstate?
LG: “I’m happy to go wherever. Getting drafted is everyone’s dream so anywhere would be an absolutely a privilege to move to.”
Q: Last year you predominantly did play forward but did get some wing and even mid, where do you see. yourself playing this year?
LG: “The coaches have said more midfield time, but definitely happy to go forward again.”
Q: What goals have you set yourself for this year?
LG: “Just to do my best to be honest. Obviously to get drafted is the number one goal, so just play good footy.”
