WAFLW 15 to Watch in 2025: #6 Renee Morgan

ONE of the most wonderfully balanced players across the 2025 AFL Women’s draft class, Renee Morgan ticks plenty of boxes for as a naturally gifted footballer. She boasts smarts, skills, toughness and an ability to win the ball on the inside or outside and while others might be more explosive, Morgan gets her hands dirty around the coalface.

West Australian Female Talent Manager Trent Cooper says:
“Renee had an injury interrupted year last year and she had an ankle to start this year but she’s now fully fit, tracking really well. Her training’s been first class. She’s probably one of the players who’s unlucky not be in in the National Academy and we’re expecting her to have a really big year this year.”
SUMMARY
Renee Morgan came through the South Fremantle Rogers Cup program prior to being eligible for League action, with the tough midfielder then progressing from the development pathway into the senior squad. She played six games at the backend of 2023 where she quite simply starred, which included a debut of 23 disposals, two marks and four tackles against Peel Thunder.
She would not lay less than six tackles a game in her remaining five games, and finished that first season averaging 18.8 touches as well. That form started to look good last year, racking up an average of 21 disposals across her first three games in the Doggies midfield, before injury struck and she would miss the rest of the season until the final round.
There, Morgan returned to play a role in South Fremantle’s final round loss to East Fremantle, before making the step up into the West Australian Under 18s midfield. While not at her best, she still worked hard for the Sandgropers, picking up an average of 14.0 disposals, 2.0 marks, 1.3 clearances, 1.0 inside 50s and 1.7 rebound 50s per game.
Morgan has the ability to use her skill and composure with ball in hand to hit targets off her right or left sides, apply enormous defensive pressure and bring teammates into the game. She is capable of being the first and second possession winner and given her interruptions throughout the 2024 season, could take her game to a whole new level in 2025. A readymade midfielder when fully fit.
