DANDENONG Stingrays forward Molly Reimers is a former basketballer who has found her home inside 50 for the country Coates Talent League Girls side. She added 12 games last season to eight in her first year at the Stingrays, after showing promising signs in the AFLW Under 16s carnival in 2023. Now entering her top-age season, Reimers is a member of the Vic Country hub.
We spoke to Reimers at the recent Coates Talent League Girls Preseason Testing Day.

Q&A:
Q: Molly, how did you get into footy and the pathway you took to where you are now?
MR: “I started off playing basketball. I was going to play footy at the same time with the boys, but then one of my basketball teammates was like ‘oh you should come over and play with the girls’ so that’s what I did. I played at Officer Junior Football Club. Then recently I moved over to Karingal.”
Q: In terms of your role this year, where do you see yourself playing?
MR: “Key forward or centre half-forward. I’ve been practicing in the mid so hopefully I get a game or some quarters in the mid.”
Q: What do you see as some of the strengths in your game?
MR: “My leading patterns, my kicking, especially goalkicking, hitting leads and my marking.”
Q: What about the improvements you’re looking to make?
MR: “One-on-one contested marking.”
Q: Which AFL/W club you support?
MR: “Collingwood.”
Q: What’s the story behind barracking for them?
MR: “Family, grown up with it.”
Q: Which player do you look up to at top level?
MR: “In the AFL Collingwood men’s, Jamie Elliott. I love the way he leads for the ball, his leading patterns and his marking ability.”
Q: Who’s had the most individual influence on your career do you think?
MR: “My parents. Especially my dad and my mum, they’ve both taken me to all the games, and my step mum.”
Q: Finally, what goals do you set for yourself this year?
MR: “Making AFLW is the main one for sure. Making Vic Country this season also.”
