2025 CTL | Round 1 Player of the Week: Willem Duursma

GIPPSLAND Power star Willem Duursma is our Coates Talent League Player of the Week after his authoritative performance in Round 1. The top pick contender racked up 36 disposals, 10 marks, five clearances and a goal in the Power’s 48-point win over Murray Bushrangers on Sunday.

In an early sign of how his talent stacks up against the draft pool, Duursma led all comers and was impactful from the outset. He also showcased four-quarter concentration to run out the game strongly, adding 14 touches and six marks to his tally in the final term, though the damage was already done.

The uber-athletic utility was strong all around the ground and looked a class above the rest at times. Despite winning 14 contested possessions, he maintained his usual effectiveness with ball in hand to go at a terrific efficiency rate of 78 per cent. Although, he could only manage 1.3 in front of goal.

Duursma’s performance came opposed to Vic Country teammate Riley Onley, who topped Murray’s disposal charts with 28. The 194cm midfielder also gathered seven marks, seven clearances and a goal in the loss. Both will be candidates for the Round 1 Team of the Week.

Perhaps the greatest challenger to Duursma’s crown this week, though, was fellow pick one contender Cooper Duff-Tytler. The mobile 200cm ruckman put in an imperious performance, posting 26 disposals, 14 hitouts, eight clearances, and two goals as Calder beat Oakleigh by five points.

Geelong Falcons midfielder Josh Lindsay was also a standout on Sunday. He picked up a game-high 27 disposals, seven tackles and seven clearances as his side went down to Dandenong. He and the Falcons will look to bounce back as they welcome GWV Rebels to the fold in Round 2.
