McGuane just nudged out teammate and National Academy member Thomas Burton for the full votes, with Burton also featuring just a couple of votes off the leaders. McGuane joined Sandringham Dragons’ Rory Wright on seven votes, with Wright’s Dragons side having the bye in Round 6.

In Calder Cannons’ victory over Bendigo Pioneers, Adam Sweid (two votes) and Hunter Wright (one) both polled for their respective sides and moved up to equal second on the table, just one vote off the leaders. They joined Sydney Swans Academy’s Nicholas Andreacchio and Oakleigh Chargers’ Jai Saxena as part of a nail-biting top six.

Alongside Burton, Gippsland Power dynamo and pick one contender Willem Duursma polled two votes in his side’s narrow defeat to Geelong Falcons, moving him up to just two off the leaders as well. After a best on ground performance last round, Daniel Annable (Brisbane Lions Academy) polled another two to be in that group as well.
