2025 CTL Girls Team of the Week: Round 6

PRODUCTION was at an all-time high in Round 6 of the Coates Talent League Girls Team of the Week, with the lowest-disposal onballer having 36 touches and even a 30-disposal performer missing out on the 24-player squad. The competition was high and the spread even, with Eastern Ranges (four players) leading the way in terms of representatives, clear of Oakleigh Chargers and Geelong Falcons (three apiece).

Headlining the team in Round 6 are a pair of 41-disposal players in Geelong Falcons skipper Georgia Tyrrell and Calder Cannons acting skipper Chloe Baker-West. Tyrrell is captain of the Team of the Week after 18 tackles and 12 clearances to go with her 41 touches, fittingly taking over the duty from last week’s Player of the Week, Baker-West. In a normal week, Oakleigh Chargers’ Chloe Bown‘s 36 touches and 10 clearances would be far and away the best, but incredibly was topped over the weekend.

Rucking to those three dominant ball-winners is Eastern Ranges’ Josephine Bamford who shone in her side’s victory over the previously unbeaten Sydney Swans Academy. Tyrrell leads one of three starting Falcons talents with midfielder/forward Stella Huxtable kicking three of her side’s four goals to accompany 31 touches, while the versatile Ava Bilyk slots onto a wing in this side. She is opposite to Northern Knights’ Scarlett Johnson who was the best performing pure wing of the weekend.

Huxtable is not the only midfielder/forward inside 50 with Maggie Johnstone (23 disposals, two goals) on the other flank, while the full-forward line has a trio of three-goal performers from the weekend. Giants Academy’s Majella Day and Suns Academy’s Alannah Welsh flank competition leading goalkicker Bailee Martin who has practically reserved the full-forward spot in 2025.

The last remaining forward is Gippsland Power’s Abby Hobson who clunked 12 marks – four contested – from 21 disposals and kicked four goals in 15 minutes during the Power’s win over the Cannons. Another forward who rolled back to defence over the weekend was Murray Bushrangers’ Rose Bell, recording a league-high 11 rebound 50s in a loss to Sandringham Dragons. Either side of her are some classy and smart players in Northern Academy pair Charlotte Tidemann (Swans) and Ameleia Murray (Lions).

A couple of versatile Ranges lineup at half-back with Jordyn Allen and Brylee Anderson having a profound impact on the game against the Swans from behind the ball. Anderson moved into the middle at times as well, something that Oakleigh defender Chloe Thorn has done in the past and on the weekend drove the ball through the middle repetitively in the victory over the Lions.

Looking to the bench and it is midfield heavy with some seriously unlucky players. GWV Rebels over-ager Isabella Davies and Suns Academy’s Mikayla Nurse both recorded 29 touches in their respective wins, while Matilda Lange did all she could in the Devils’ loss to the Falcons down in North Hobart. Eastern Ranges’ Emily Rankin was one of her side’s top performers, with Giants Academy’s Isla Wiencke (24 disposals, 11 clearances) thriving in the wet. Sandringham Dragons’ Chloe Shipton made the side to ensure the even-balanced Dragons had a representative after a win.

While the list of potential emergencies is huge, the three chose were Western Jets’ Jazmine Dalli, Lions Academy’s Molly Ferguson and Murray Bushrangers’ Nikhita Spiteri, the latter two of whom had 27 and 30 touches respectively, giving an insight into just how competitive spots were for the midfield in Round 6.
