A DOMINANT ball-winning duo from Claremont lead our WAFL Women’s Team of the Week for Round 8 with the Tigers and fellow undefeated side Subiaco boasting nine of the 24 players. Other winners Swan Districts and West Perth each have three, as do Perth and South Fremantle, while East Perth (two) and Peel Thunder (one) round out the eight sides in action.
Tigers pair Juliet Kelly and Matilda Sergeant combined for a a whopping 92 disposals, eight marks, 18 clearances, 16 tackles, 10 inside 50s and a goal, with the former earning the nod for the captaincy with her league record-breaking 48 touches. The duo were joined in the side by Megan Green and Sarah Viney who were named on the bench.
Subiaco boasts a league-high five players in our Team of the Week for Round 8, with key position pair Olivia Wolmarans and Olivia Crane holding down posts at either end of the ground. Wolmarans is joined inside 50 by fellow forward Aimee Schmidt who also slotted three goals in the win over Peel Thunder, while Paige Sheppard and Krstel Petrevski are part of the midfield rotation.
The three Perth sides are well represented in the back half with Falcons’ duo Emily Bennett and Jessica Roper at the half-back and back pocket positions respectively. In the other pocket is Perth dynamo Mia Carlshausen, while the experienced Hayley O’Donnell is a Royals representative in the back half. Peel’s only player in the side, Ebony Dowson is the other defender in the team.
Ruck Lillian Ninyett completes East Perth’s representation, while the in-form Sara Riou made the team for yet another week. She has been named at half-forward, while Swan Districts pair Sienna Gerardi and Taylah Edwards provide spark inside 50 after impressive outings on the weekend. Completing the starting 18 is South Fremantle forward Zoe Huggett and Perth wing and co-captain Isabella Shannon.
The bench has plenty of strong ball-winners with State Academy member Carys D’Addario and Perth representative Gemma Dix. Rounding out the team are a couple of Bulldogs in Bailey Hunt and Tahleah Mulder, as well as a Tiger duo in Megan Green and Sarah Viney.
In a week of plenty of individual talent, another Tiger and Lion make the emergencies with Rachel Ortlepp and Lisa Steane there alongside East Perth youngster Charli Bassett.
