2025 CTLG | Round 7/8 Player of the Week: Brylee Anderson

BOTTOM-AGE star Brylee Anderson added her name to Rookie Me Central’s list of Coates Talent League Girls’ Players of the Week after a dominant performance in Eastern Ranges’ big win over Calder Cannons. The red-hot Ranges continued their incredible year in search of a third straight grand final by notching up a 93-point victory over the Cannons at Highgate Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
At the forefront of that victory was Anderson who had the ball on a string on her way to not only 30 disposals and six clearances – a feat teammate Emily Rankin also achieved against the Cannons – but three goals from five scoring shots. Rankin (11 tackles and six inside 50s) was also a standout on teh day in the win and would nearly be best-on in any other game.
Anderson became the third bottom-ager to earn a Player of the Week nomination behind Bailee Martin (Round 1) and Ava Deszcz (Round 4), and just the third Vic Metro player (Martin, Chloe Baker-West in Round 5) in that time. Largely due to Eastern’s depth, there is rarely a clear standout such is the overall team contribution.
In the only Round 7 match, it was Macy Watkins who would be the first of the players across the last four days to notch up 30-plus disposals, finishing with 32, as well as five marks, six tackles, three clearances, three inside 50s and a goal in the win over Northern Territory last Thursday night. Yesterday it was Rain Dodd who put up similar numbers against the top-end for Murray Bushrangers, recording 32 disposals, four clearances and three inside 50s. Ellie Hall and Majella Day were also very good.
Oakleigh Chargers’ Chloe Bown continues to be around the mark and is consistently among the top five players in any given round. On Saturday, Bown racked up 33 disposals, three marks, five tackles, six clearances, six inside 50s and two rebound 50s in the Chargers’ 14-point triumph over the Swans Academy. Though on the losing side, Swans midfielder Kiera Yerbury had 34 disposals, three marks, four tackles, six clearances, seven inside 50s and a goal.
At Shepley Oval, it was an even contribution across the board during Tasmania Devils’ breakthrough victory over Dandenong Stingrays, as Matilda Lange, Mischa Barwin and Priya Bowering all found plenty of the football and steered their side to victory. The trio combined for 71 disposals, 12 marks, 13 clearances and 12 inside 50s. Matilda Argus (27 disposals, three marks, 11 tackles and eight rebound 50s) was her side’s best in defeat.
In the last game of the round, Bendigo Pioneers’ Issy Boulton had the ball on a string with 11 more disposals than any other player on the ground, finishing with 34 touches, eight tackles, four clearances, six inside 50s and seven rebound 50s. Her side went down by 40 points though, as bottom-age pair Grace Dillow and Lily Milner were huge for Gippsland Power at Windy Hill.
