PREVIEW | 2025 AFL Sydney Women’s Premier: Round 10

THE TOP four AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division sides have a chance to extend their lead over the rest of the competition when they face off in Round 10. Leading by four points over the rest of the field, the finals contenders take on the next four sides with last placed Pennant Hills having the bye.
UNSW-ES BULLDOGS vs. MANLY WARRINGAH WOLVES
Saturday, June 21 @ 11:50am
Henson Park
The game between the Bulldogs and Wolves will be determined around the clearances and Manly will look to continue its proactive play from the stoppages leading to multiple inside 50s. The Wolves have been able to capitalise on that play with Isabella Rudolph doing most of the damage and leads the competition’s goalkicking. In particular, the grunt work down the field has assisted in the Wolves’ offence getting more reliable entries.
On the other hand, UNSW got exposed last week for being able to link multiple possessions together and get meaningful flow down the field. That hurt the Bulldogs’ chances of scoring and will be important in order to cause an upset here. They have had some very pleasing performances this season, but continue to stumble up against the top teams and must find a way to impact on the scoreboard. Manly by 65 points.
UTS BATS vs. SYDNEY UNIVERSITY
Saturday, June 21 @ 12:20pm
Waverley Oval
Last time these two teams faced off, UTS was stagnant and clunky with its ball movement and the Sydney Uni Students outplayed them in every aspect. Look for a much improved effort from the Bats with their transitioning from inside play to the outside, running hard with and using the ball more effectively going inside 50. If they do not, then it could be another long day for the Bats who are desperate to keep in touch with the top four sides.
For Sydney Uni, its core is functioning efficiently and may look to experiment in a variety of ways to continue to prepare for finals. The only difference making factor this week is the homeground advantage for the Bats at Waverley Oval. UTS has been outstanding at the venue in 2025 and will lift for the big clash. However UTS needs to try and stop the Students’ ability to exit stoppages through evasion or it will be a tough day out. Sydney Uni by 29 points.
PARRAMATTA GOANNAS vs. NORTH SHORE BOMBERS
Saturday, June 21 @ 12:20pm
Gipps Road Ovals
In what looms as a one-sided contest, the red-hot Bombers will be too strong for the developing Goannas to handle at this stage. The Parramatta side have been much improved over the last few rounds but will not be allowed to offensively move the ball and thus, they have to force extra pressure through the central corridor.
Last time they met, Sophie Kavanagh got out the front of contests and destroyed the Goannas in a matter of minutes. Now that she is unavailable, the Goannas cannot allow another Bomber to do the same. That is what North Shore does so well, as is transitioning the ball from defence to offence. If the Goannas can put some pressure on North Shore and force them to defend a little, it will restrict the avalanche of expected goals. North Shore by 85 points.
ST GEORGE DRAGONS vs. EAST COAST EAGLES
Saturday, June 21 @ 12:50pm
Olds Park
The major question for this game is whether the young and developing Dragons can get any offensive football pressure on the Eagles. The reigning champs have had a habit of forcing teams into a defensive mindset and looking to reduce the damage on the scoreboard instead of trying to win. It will be interesting to see whether the Dragons can get around these strategies and get on the front foot to cause the reigning premiers cause for concern.
Putting points on the board has been the major Achilles heel for the Dragons since their inception to the Premier Division. For the Eagles had a past players day last round and the talent they have on the sidelines – either watching on or playing higher football at the moment – is a real eye-opener. So again, it is up to the current group to keep building towards another finals series. East Coast by 15 goals.
