MURRAY Bushrangers powerhouse Ryder Corrigan is our Coates Talent League Player of the Week after filling his boots in Round 16. The hard-nosed midfielder amassed 32 disposals, eight clearances, five inside 50s and two goals as his side kicked away from Western Jets in a 32-point victory on Saturday.

The bottom-of-the-table clash saw Murray rise off the foot of the ladder and snap a five-game losing streak. Corrigan hit the scoreboard with goals in terms one and three at DSV Stadium, before his side stormed home with four of the last five majors – two of them belonging to bottom-ager Blake Newton.

Corrigan was up for the scrap, prising 14 contested possessions and an equal game-high eight clearances among his brimming stat line. He became the Bushrangers’ first Player of the Week nominee this season, the third Allies representative to do so, and the sixth from a full-time Country region.

Those honours very nearly went to teammate Zac Harding, who posted 24 disposals, 22 hitouts, eight clearances, and seven inside 50s from the ruck. For Western, 15-year-old debutant Griffin Barker (21 disposals, eight clearances) impressed alongside defender Finn Davis (27 disposals, 10 rebound 50s).

Bottom-agers Cody Templeton (Gippsland) and Cody Walker (Bendigo) would also have been in consideration had they not already earned Player of the Week nods. The former kicked 5.4 from 15 disposals and six marks, while the latter racked up 38 touches and 12 inside 50s – both in losses.

Templeton’s Power went down to Northern, who were spearheaded by five goals to over-ager Liam Farrar. Though, barring Templeton, Knights midfielder Nicholas Driscoll was arguably best on ground in the win having been credited with 28 disposals, eight inside 50s, four clearances and a goal.

Elsewhere, Corrigan’s Allies teammate Jack Miller showed his craft with 20 disposals and three goals for Tasmania. Eastern’s Josiah Landy (26 disposals) and Oakleigh’s Doug Kerr (20 disposals, 10 tackles) both also got on the board with three goals apiece in handy wins for their respective sides.
