STAT-STUFFING midfield performances everywhere, the Round 15 Coates Talent League Girls Team of the Week was filled with stars and brilliant individual efforts. Reigning two-time premiers Oakleigh Chargers were far and away the most represented with five, while fellow winners Gippsland Power, Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels and Western Jets were next most with three players.
Captaining the side for Round 15 is one of those Chargers in Chloe Bown who racked up 32 disposals, seven marks, five tackles, five clearances and 10 inside 50s, one of a number of 30-plus efforts across the weekend.
Alongside Bown on-ball is Murray Bushrangers’ sole representative in Ellie Hall who had another enormous effort of 39 disposals, six marks, seven tackles, eight clearances, five inside 50s, four rebound 50s and a goal. The other onballer is Tasmania Devils’ Evie Ward who racked up 34 disposals – 30 contested – and finished with seven tackles, nine clearances, three inside 50s and four rebound 50s in her side’s defeat to GWV Rebels.
Ultra efficient Vic Metro stars, Northern Knights’ Scarlett Johnson (26 disposals, eight marks, two tackles, three clearances, three inside 50s and three rebound 50s) and Eastern Ranges’ Emily Rankin (22 disposals, seven tackles, five clearances and seven inside 50s) were named on the wings.
There were a number of defenders who spent time through the middle in Round 15 with Oakleigh Chargers’ Chloe Thorn (24 disposals, five marks, three clearances and seven inside 50s) and Ella Jeffrey (29 disposals, five marks, 10 tackles) prime examples of that. They were both named in defence with Dandenong Stingrays’ sole representative Mizuki Brothwell who had 18 disposals, four marks, four tackles and six inside 50s.
Completing the back six are athletic talls, Alex McBride-Loane (17 disposals, six marks and three tackles) and Chloe Williams (21 disposals, eight marks, four tackles, three inside 50s and six rebound 50s) in the key posts, while Gippsland Power’s Ella Stoddart (20 disposals, three marks, four clearances, two inside 50s, two rebound 50s and a goal) was named in the back pocket.
Up front, another Power player in Abby Hobson kicked two goals from 21 touches, eight marks and six tackles, while Western’s Paige McHutchison slotted two majors from 14 disposals and four marks to make her Team of the Week debut. Familiar names in Bailee Martin (Oakleigh Chargers) and Jovie Skewes-Clinton (GWV Rebels) both kicked three goals to also make it in once again.
Sandringham Dragons’ Sienna Sharp (16 disposals, six marks, four tackles, three clearances and a goal) and GWV Rebels’ Maggie Johnstone (25 disposals, three marks, seven tackles, five clearances and six inside 50s) were the other forwards in the Round 15 side. Rounding out the starting 18 is Oakleigh Chargers’ ruck Jessica Owen (10 disposals, two marks, 24 hitouts and two clearances).
Looking to the bench and there are a couple of 30-plus disposal ball-winners there in Isabella Davies (32 touches, three marks, five tackles, seven clearances and four inside 50s) and Bendigo Pioneers’ Lacey Nihill (30 disposals, five marks, six tackles and five inside 50s), while Oakleigh Chargers’ Teagan Murtic was also prolific with 28 disposals, three marks, six tackles and three rebound 50s between defence and midfield.
The remaining three interchange players are Eastern Ranges’ Brylee Anderson (25 disposals, nine tackles, nine clearances and four inside 50s), Gippsland Power’s Grace Dillow (21 disposals, four marks, three tackles, five clearances and five inside 50s) and Western Jets’ Charlie O’Connor Moreira (27 disposals, four marks, eight tackles, 5 clearances, 11 inside 50s and three rebound 50s).
In a strange twist for Round 15, the only club not represented was actually Calder Cannons who had a seven-goal win but such an even team performance. Felicity Mahoney was named as one of three emergencies however, alongside Bendigo Pioneers’ Olivia Lacy and GWV Rebels’ Milly Shortal.
