2025 RMC MEDAL | Race heats up for half dozen prospects

AS VICTORIAN representative returned to their Coates Talent League Girls clubs over the weekend, some familiar faces popped up in our Rookie Me Central Medal voting for the start of the last month of action. With three rounds remaining, it theoretically means up to 14 players could win or share the medal in 2025, though six players have created separation on the rest of the competition.

Vic Metro MVP Chloe Bown picked up five votes in her side’s win over Dandenong Stingrays to surge into the lead, one clear of Murray Bushrangers’ Ellie Hall. The New South Wales prospect continued her ripping form of late with another best on ground performance following 39 touches. The difference in the run home could be Bown having three games to Hall’s two. Bown’s Oakleigh teammate Chloe Thorn picked up the four votes.

However they are not the only ones in contention with the injured Chloe Baker-West within reach on 30 votes, the same amount as Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels star Maggie Johnstone. Johnstone picked up the full five ahead of fellow Rebel Isabella Davies who is equal eighth in the count herself. Jovie Skewes-Clinton also polled well with Tasmanian Evie Ward having an enormous game and deservedly polled votes despite being in a 60-0 loss.

Northern Knights’ Scarlett Johnson moved within five of the leaders after a best on ground performance in defeat to Gippsland Power, with Power pair Grace Dillow (four votes) Ella Stoddart (three) polling well once again in the side’s win.

Bottom-ager Brylee Anderson polled a couple in her side’s loss to Sandringham Dragons to sit four votes off the leader, with Eastern having two games left in the run home. Emily Rankin was a standout in that game and sits equal-15th.

Otherwise Bendigo Pioneers might have gone down by seven goals to Calder Cannons but had a core group of standout midfielder/defenders. The Pioneers collected 13 of a possible 15 votes from the game with Ella Jeffrey, Lacey Nihill, Olivia Lacy and Beth Morris all polling, as Felicity Mahoney (two votes) was the sole Cannon.
