2025 CTL Girls Team of the Week: Round 16

A RAMPAGING Eastern Ranges earned a league-high four players in our Coates Talent League Girls Team of the Week after a big victory over Calder Cannons, while Murray Bushrangers and Oakleigh Chargers picked up three apiece. Of the 12 sides, 11 are represented with nine having multiple players in the side.

Captaining the side this week is double bottom-age jet Scarlett Bown who booted a league-high seven goals, including six in the last half hour to help steer Oakleigh to a come-from-behind victory over Sandringham Dragons. She is part of a high-powered forwardline that includes Eastern Ranges pair Zoe Vozzo and Briannan Lambe who both slotted five majors in their side’s demolition of Calder.

Completing the front six is Bown’s sister Chloe who spent two and a half quarters at half-forward before going into the midfield and finishing with 25 touches and 10 clearances. The other two talls are Majella Day who booted 3.4 as she peppered the big sticks for Murray against Northern, and Maya Duane (20 disposals, eight marks, five clearances, nine inside 50s and two goals) provided an aerial threat for the Dragons at centre half-forward.

Up the other end of the field, another Bushranger known for kicking goals holds down full-back in Rose Bell (13 disposals, three marks, four tackles and seven rebound 50s), while Western Jets tall Alex McBride-Loane made it in again after 18 touches and seven rebound 50s in the tight loss to the Rebels. Gippsland Power’s Ella Stoddart good form continued with another impressive performance of 19 disposals and eight rebound 50s to earn a spot in the back pocket.

Bendigo Pioneers pair Issy Boulton (26 disposals, five marks, five tackles, four inside 50s and four rebound 50s) and Georgia Garlick (22 disposals, seven marks, four tackles and three inside 50s) provided plenty of run from the back half. Eastern Ranges speedster Jordyn Allen rounded out the back six despite mostly playing midfield, squeezing back to her familiar role with 22 disposals, three marks and 10 inside 50s providing stacks of run.

Team of the Week regular Scarlett Johnson was named on a wing after another big performance of 27 disposals, seven marks, seven tackles, six inside 50s and four rebound 50s, while her Knights teammate Olivia Gorman (25 disposals, four marks, nine tackles, eight clearances and five inside 50s) stood out between midfield and attack to earn an on-ball spot.

Ruck Josephine Bamford managed 16 disposals, two marks, three tackles, 18 hitouts and two clearances to slot into the starting ruck role, while the other two onballers were Murray Bushrangers’ Ellie Hall (37 disposals, four marks, six tackles, six clearances and eight inside 50s) and Tasmania Devils’ Mia Anderson (29 disposals, six marks, seven tackles, 10 inside 50s and a goal). GWV Rebels over-ager Isabella Davies was named on the other wing after 33 touches, seven tackles, four inside 50s and four rebound 50s.

Sandringham Dragons defender Chloe Williams earned her spot on the bench in a hard-working effort behind the ball, while opponent on the day Zoe Curry was influential through midfield. Other opponents in Priya Bowering (27 disposals, six marks, four clearances and nine inside 50s) and Grace Dillow (23 disposals, six tackles, four clearances and four inside 50s) were both outstanding, while Western Jets’ Tayla Olivieri and Geelong Falcons’ Georgia Tyrrell were phenomenal defensively.

In what was a stacked round of action, the three emergencies chosen amongst a shot of options were Tasmanian Mischa Barwin, Falcons midfielder/forward Stella Huxtable and Eastern bottom-ager Emily Rankin all of whom hit the scoreboard in their respective games.
