PREVIEW | 2025 WAFLW – Preliminary Final

AFTER two nail-biting one-point results in the semi-finals, the WAFL Women’s Preliminary Final lineup could very well have been the other two finalists. Instead, a Subiaco defeat to Claremont meant the Lions have to go the long way to the decider, while for Swan Districts, they survived against East Fremantle to live another day.

  • Swan Districts

FORM

Subiaco comes into the match after back-to-back losses to Claremont, though the Lions really should have won last week and be into a grand final. Some mistakes and missed opportunities late in the game cost them, while Swan Districts charged home to pip the Sharks in an equally nail-biting contest.

TEAMS

CHANGES

A total of one change across two sides has been named for the match, with the experienced Lisa Steane returning in exchange for Lindal Rohde. Swan Districts has opted to keep its same lineup from the semi-final with State Academy members Sienna Gerardi and Ava Stewart among four emergencies.

AFLW DRAFT WATCH

Swan Districts midfielder Carys D’Addario will have a huge job alongside partner in crime Jaime Henry to try and get on top in teh midfield, and is her side’s sole State Academy member. Subiaco has a host of draft prospects headlined by twin towers Olivia Wolmarans and Olivia Crane up opposite ends, both of whom were fantastic last week.

Powerful left-footers Layla Quinn-Schofield and Sunni-Quay Peters are the other State Academy members from the Lions, and add great value up respective 50s with plenty of upside for both players.

PREDICTION

Subiaco should be too strong here with a bit too much depth for the Swans, not to mention extra motivation after suffering that heartbreaking defeat last round. Having been in the best two sides all year, Subiaco should get another crack at the Tigers, though the Swans will not make it easy, also possessing a host of quality players.
