2025 Coates Talent League Girls finals confirmed

FINALS action kicks off this weekend with the Coates Talent League Girls finals taking place in the first of three knockout rounds. Under the current rules, the top four sides from the Victorian Country and Tasmania region, and top four sides from the Victoria Metro region have secured their spots in the postseason.

A last round win for Eastern Ranges over Oakleigh Chargers handed the Ranges top seed in the metropolitan pool, with the first and fourth ranked teams in each region, as well as the second and third ranked teams, go head-to-head in the quarter finals. That means Eastern will host Northern Knights – who technically finished 10th overall, but secured a spot ahead of GWV Rebels and Tasmania Devils due to the two region split.

Funnily enough, the game is actually being held at the Knights’ home deck of Genis Steel Oval in Preston from 11am on Saturday, August 30. It is part of a double-header at the venue, with the other metropolitan contest – between Oakleigh and Sandringham – kicking off at around 1:10pm.

On Sunday, the girls’ action heads to Dandenong where the Stingrays play host to Geelong Falcons in the first of two quarter finals. Following that first against fourth battle, Gippsland Power – who have played at Shepley Oval the past two weeks as well – will tackle Murray Bushrangers to close out the weekend.

The two divisions become mingled in the preliminary final to ensure a metropolitan side will take on a country side in each of them. If the top ranked teams win, then Eastern would take on Gippsland and Oakleigh would face Dandenong. Both preliminary finals are scheduled for the weekend of September 6-7.

Winning preliminary finalists then head to Ikon Park two weeks later for the Coates Talent League Girls Grand Final. The competition has a week off on September 13-14 with the difference between the girls and boys’ post-season is a wildcard round for the latter which sees their finals series pushed back one week.

The venues for the last three finals will be determined in the near future.
