2025 CTLG Team Review: Geelong Falcons

GEELONG Falcons came into the year with a couple of contested bulls and an athletic utility father-daughter prospect, and all three earned State Draft Combine invites following strong seasons at Coates Talent League Girls level and Vic Country representation.

BEST PERFORMANCE
Round 6: def. Tasmania Devils by 4 points
In a low-scoring scrap, Geelong managed to upstage a strong Tasmania Devils outfit on the Apple Isle with a goal in each of the four quarters while keeping the Devils to just one major after trailing at quarter time. Skipper Georgia Tyrrell put up an equal competition season-high 41 touches, while laying 18 tackles, as Stella Huxtable (31 disposals, three goals) ran rampant and bottom-ager Ava Bilyk (29 disposals) was also outstanding.

STATE DRAFT COMBINE
Stella Huxtable (Torquay)
Midfielder/Forward | 172cm | 22/12/2007
Stats [12 games]: 27.0 disposals, 2.5 marks, 6.2 tackles, 6.3 clearances, 3.1 inside 50s, 2.0 rebound 50s, 10 goals
Rotating her time between midfield and attack, Huxtable put up huge numbers across the board with the penetrating left-footer never afraid to put her body on the line. She was influential at the coalface with her ability to extract the ball, but her strength overhead allowed her to be a marking target inside 50. She booted 10 goals in 12 games, but missed a lot of opportunities and could have easily kicked double that number with a bit of luck. Consistent as anyone else the last few years.
Meg Lappin (Newtown & Chilwell)
Tall Utility | 180cm | 21/09/2007
Stats [14 games]: 11.0 disposals, 2.6 marks, 3.9 hitouts, 2.5 tackles, 1.8 inside 50s, 1.6 rebound 50s, 1 goal
The eligible Brisbane Lions father-daughter prospect featured on multiple lines for the Falcons, primarily acting as a wing/tall defender, but also went into the ruck to use her jump to full advantage. She is not necessarily a massive accumulator, but over the last couple of seasons, Lappin has played in every single position which makes her as versatile as anyone. A tall, athletic utility with a booming kick is hard to come by, so will garner plenty of interest.
Georgia Tyrrell (St Joseph’s)
Midfielder | 168cm | 04/08/2007
Stats [13 games]: 24.8 disposals, 2.1 marks, 11.2 tackles, 5.8 clearances, 3.6 inside 50s, 2.4 rebound 50s, 2 goals
The Geelong Falcons skipper and Vic Country MVP could not have done much more in the 2025 season, hardly playing a bad game and just providing consistent effort wherever she went. A profound tackler who thrived on the inside, but also spent time off half-back, Tyrrell is a natural footballer with great smarts and decision making that enables her to continually get her hands on the ball and use it effectively. A rock solid option given her long-term consistency.

FUTURE PROSPECTS
Vic Country Under 16s MVP Ava Bilyk headlines the bottom-age crop at the Falcons, with the skilful, smooth-moving utility having played on all three lines. Injury interrupted the second half of her year, but Bilyk returned to the Falcons for the quarter final, and will likely lead Geelong’s midfield in 2026.
Athletic tall Greea McKeegan started out as a marking forward in her debut season, but slowly moved up the ground as she did for Vic Country where she could use her running capacity to play off a wing. She looms as the other key draft prospect for the Falcons next season, while the likes of Lua Payne, Grace Carroll and Jayde Morrissy all earned plenty of games for the side this year.
From an Under 16s perspective, the Falcons are already looking like having a few talented prospects with strong marking tall and Under 16s MVP Ella Condon becoming a key member of the team across all three lines. Holly Confoy and Evie Albones each earned a game and were among seven 2009-born players to don the Falcons colours in 2025.
