Dockers determined to make more of their “moments”

FREMANTLE will head back to its roots in a bid to bounce back from another AFLW loss, this time to Carlton at Ikon Park. In the first of a two-game roadtrip in Victoria, the Dockers had their chances but failed to capitalise, while the Blues went on to do just that and win by nine points in Round 7.
Fremantle lead by a point at half-time and were all square with a quarter to play, before Carlton kicked the final two majors of the match to come away with the 5.2 (32) to 3.5 (23) victory last Friday. Dockers coach Lisa Webb said the side was “really disappointed” in the loss.
“We gave ourselves every opportunity,” she said. “Obviously we won a few of the things that we were focusing on pre-game. “Contested ball, clearances, but we knew that they’re a very good team and they’re obviously in good form and just disappointed that we didn’t take our moments.”
Webb said the side had really focused on returning to its “DNA” having strung together back-to-back wins in recent weeks after a lean patch of three consecutive losses. Following the Round 7 defeat, the Dockers are now 3-4 for the season.
“Carlton just obviously took their moments better, they’re a really good team as I said before,” Webb said. “Just disappointed in really important moments of the game we just couldn’t execute and we’ve just got to keep getting better, and we will.
“I’m really determined at that, and the group are really disappointed clearly, but there’s so many ways in which we can improve and we use this week on the road to get better at them together.”
When honing in on the last quarter, Webb said the most frustrating element was the Dockers’ inability to capitalise with the breeze.
“We probably ran over some footys that we need to stick, we made some poor decisions inside 50,” she said. “We certainly had our opportunities as well, but once again if you don’t take those opportunities, good teams like Carlton with respect to them, they were clearly the team that got the points in the end. Obviously disappointed in our efforts today.”
Fremantle has the short six-day turnaround with the second of its Victorian travel tonight in Frankston when the Dockers travel to take on the third placed Hawks.
