A MASSIVE day five of AFL Women’s Trade action saw some big names switch clubs, and other teams position themselves further up the draft order both in 2025 and 2026. We recap each deal that went down.
>> AFLW TRADE: Day 1 wrap | Day 2 wrap | Day 3-4 wrap
MONDAY, DECEMBER 8
Port adds Power with strong Lion
Port Adelaide receives: Ellie Hampson, Pick 36 and 2026 fourth-rounder (Brisbane)
Brisbane receives: Pick 28, Pick 48 and 2026 third-rounder (Port Adelaide)
Port Adelaide has further added to its depth by bringing in Hampson who has the potential to slot into the midfield as a ready-made option, but has shown she can also play a variety of other roles too. In what was essentially a couple of pick downgrades and a third-rounder, the Power have added an additional player for its finals push.
Melbourne receives: Pick 14 and 2026 second-rounder (Gold Coast)
Gold Coast receives: Pick 17 and 27
Gold Coast continued on its merry way of collecting just about every pick in the second round whilst holding onto one in the first, just in case an Ava Usher bid comes at pick one. The Dees get a pick in a stronger draft and realistically have forced the Suns into two upgrades in order to match bids, so it’s a great deal for Melbourne, while it matters little to Gold Coast who will just repeat the words ‘bid matched’ on draft night.
Adelaide receives: Grace Egan
Richmond receives: Pick 38
The tough inside midfielder finds her way to the Crows and replaced Anne Hatchard in a bargain-basement price. Richmond played its hand by openly offering Egan out and the Crows took a bite, parting with Pick 38.
Fremantle receives: Eden Zanker, Lily Johnson, Pick 35 and 2026 fourth-rounder (Melbourne)
Melbourne receives: Pick 9. Pick 27, Pick 81 and 2026 second-rounder (Fremantle)
Melbourne’s rebuild on the run continued by positioning itself well grabbing Pick 9 which meant the Dees now gained two picks inside the top 15. They also moved up significantly in a stronger draft next year, but did lose Zanker and Johnson, the former of which in particular is an incredible get for the Dockers. The Dees will grab some quality players, but the Dockers will be licking their lips knowing they have a player of Zanker’s quality inside 50.
GWS receives: Poppy Boltz and 2026 second-rounder (Brisbane)
Brisbane receives: Pick 19
A value bargain-buy for the Giants who used their end of first round compensation pick for what it was designed for, bringing in a mature-age, readymade talent. Boltz has experience in a successful Lions outfit and will add crucial height to the back half of the ground, all for little more than a pick upgrade.
West Coast receives: Ella Slocombe and 2026 fourth-rounder (Richmond)
North Melbourne receives: Pick 48
Slocombe has enormous talent, just ended up at the one club that could not fit her in. The Roos youngster heads back home and should get a crack with the Eagles, while the Roos get a minor pick upgrade in what was a relatively straight-forward deal.
