Fremantle might not have had a high pick, but still had some quality to pick with such was the evenness of the draft, and when 35 came around, they went the way of the open draft’s most versatile player in Hazelhurst. The Norwood talent has been playing senior SANFLW football for some time now, and has experienced life across every role.

She is more likely to start off half-back with the rebounding role her preferred position, though her athletic gifts and aerial play highlights. Hazelhurst is perhaps the the ying to her South Australian and now Dockers teammate Bessen who might not have the height or athleticism, but brings brilliant skills and smarts to the table.

The Sturt prospect has long been considered one to watch, and though softly spoken lets her football do the talking with the way she goes about it between midfield and attack. She also spent time off a wing for South Australia which is a huge tick. One with prestigious natural talent.

Rounding out the trio of new Dockers is Tasmanian midfielder Anderson who expanded her game to also roll off a wing or half-forward at different points this season. She is a really well-rounded player who has a mix of both athletic and footballing traits. At Pick 46, she is a nice value selection.

GRADE: B+

Overall the Dockers will be happy with the three players they brought in, all around their draft region with perhaps Bessen being the one great value pick given her natural ability. There’s no reason they can’t force their way into the side at some point with the Sturt midfielder/forward a readymade player, while Hazelhurst and Anderson are not too far behind as well.
