Adelaide-bound Bown ready to meet high standards

ADELAIDE draftee Chloe Bown is a born winner, and took out just about every individual award imaginable throughout her top-age campaign. It is only fitting, then, that the Oakleigh Chargers graduate has ended up at arguably the most successful club in AFLW history.

Speaking to media on the morning after Monday night’s draft, Bown expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to add to the Crows’ winning culture. Traditionally, that’s not always the case for players called out within the first handful of picks.

“[Monday] night was just an incredible night, I’ll never forget it,” she said. It was uncertain but I was just looking forward to being drafted and being picked up by a club.

“I’m really lucky to be in that position to be picked up by such a good club, and have been for a while. Hopefully that carries on, I’d love to bring my strengths and keep going with that success.”

Bown identified the “high standards” of her new club as a factor which resonates with her own attitude and style of play. Having likeminded athletes to learn off is the opportunity she is looking forward to most.

“They’re wanting to win and that’s exactly what I want to do,” she said. “They’ve been so successful and I’ve got so many players I look up to there… Ebony Marinoff would be one, she’s just an incredible player.

“I’m so ready to get into it and meet the girls. That’s a really exciting part of it as well.”

Getting “stuck in” in a new environment not only means acclimatising to a city Bown is yet to visit, but also taking the opportunity to fill an Anne Hatchard-sized hole in midfield.

“I’m going over to Adelaide tomorrow for two days, just seeing some places. I haven’t really been there before… we’ll probably plan a bit more over the next couple of months.

“[Playing midfield] would be the goal, but anywhere they need me. Half-forward as well, I love playing that position.”
