2022 AFLW Under 18 Championships confirmed

WESTERN Australia is set to face two other states in the AFL Women’s Under 18 Championships after the AFL announced a change to the 2022 edition today. Due to border restrictions, the Sandgropers were initially set to take on two WAFL Women’s clubs, as well as a potential head-to-head with South Australia in June.

In the updated fixture today, Western Australia will now take on a WAFL Women’s All-Stars team, after taking on South Australia, but also face Vic Metro the following week as part of a triple-header in Melbourne.

By Western Australia returning to the fold, it means the NSW/ACT standalone side will only face the combined Allies team of Northern Territory and Tasmania, before the four combined states and territories will form the regular Allies. The Allies will take on South Australia and Queensland.

The AFLW Under 18 Championships kick off with a standalone clash between Vic Country and Vic Metro on March 20 at Mars Stadium in Ballarat. The remaining matches take place over 21 days from Sunday, April 10 through until Saturday April 30.

South Australia will benefit from the change, taking on Western Australia and a stronger combined Allies outfit rather than two matches against the split Allies sides. Queensland will enter the championships last, first taking on Vic Metro on April 19.

The full fixture is below, with Rookie Me Central to be providing in-depth coverage in the lead-up to, during and post championships.
