A versatile defender who lifted his stocks in 2022, Geelong Falcons' Oscar Murdoch could not have done much more for his case. The 190cm backman played on both talls and smalls, showcasing his dexterity in defensive roles. He was more the capable of winning the ball in the air and providing and outlet kick to other defenders, often safe by hand or foot over short distances. For Vic Country, Murdoch averaged 13.3 disposals, 3.3 marks and 4.7 rebound 50s, winning 64.1 per cent of his possessions in a contest.

Murdoch arguably had a better Under 18s carnival than he did NAB League season, with the Geelong Falcons defender proving reliable, but having the majority of impact in the air. Though he maintained that aerial dominance at the championships, he was able to get involved in transitional chains more often, and was forced into more contested situations. He held up well in the higher pressure situations, earning himself a State Draft Combine invite.

Murdoch's longer kicking can still improve, with the defender better over the short-to-medium distances. Though not a ball butcher by any means, he can be prone to turning some over. While he can play on various opposition forwards, Murdoch is just a defender at this point and could further develop in other roles, but has plenty of tools to make it.
