A tough and robust midfielder who has consistently owned stoppages across two Coates Talent League seasons, Patrick Hughes has had to fight for recognition in his top-age season. The Geelong Falcons product tied with star Tasmanian Colby McKercher for this year's Morrish Medal, proving a mainstay for the Falcons across 16 games in their run to the preliminary finals.

Hughes' best traits are observed on the inside where he's clean off the rucks' taps and strong through the core, rolling tackles off his back and fending off those in his way. He also kicks well off both feet - a handy point of difference. The 18-year-old has work to do on his outside game and versatility, which would boost his accumulation and hurt factor. Spending time forward aided that cause somewhat, but an extra burst of speed would do the job too.
