THE Easter break is done, ANZAC Day is just around the corner and we have got another exciting round of VFL Women’s action on our hands.
The run home is well and truly underway, and with AFLW stars potentially coming into the mx, things could start to get very interesting.
Casey vs Geelong
Saturday at 12pm
Casey Fields
This will be one of the matches of the round. After a bit of a form slump, Geelong is on a two-match winning streak at the moment. The Cats have to tackle a Casey side who cannot be beaten at the moment, and are one of the premiership favourites.
The conditions will certainly be a factor in this one. Casey Fields has developed the notorious reputation it has for a reason, and Casey are well trained in how to tackle the conditions.
Port Melbourne vs North Melbourne
Saturday at 12:05pm
ETU Stadium
This clash will be an interesting one for very different reasons. Both of these sides are coming off good wins, but really need to get a move on if they want to make finals. The evenness of the competition this season means that no team is really out of contention yet, but after poor starts to the season both these sides need to start winning some games, and fast.
Essendon vs Collingwood
Saturday at 1:30pm
The Hangar
A clash that is fast becoming an ANZAC Day weekend tradition, this may go very differently then clashes in the past have. Collingwood’s premiership defence this season can only be described as a rollercoaster. When they have been on, they have been very good, but at their worst they have been comfortably beaten by their opponents.
Essendon on the other hand, are having a great season and are arguably one of the premiership favourites at this stage. They have a solid team right across the ground, with a lot of potential headaches for Collingwood to try and contain. Expect a tight affair, and one that really could go either way.
Williamstown vs Hawthorn
Saturday at 2pm
Williamstown Oval
It has been at times another tough season so far for the Seagulls, but they will certainly be keen to take quite the scalp this weekend against the Hawks.
They come up against a Hawthorn side who were pushed for three quarters last round against the Saints, but did ultimately come away with the chocolates.
the conditions may also play a factor in this match too. Williamstown Oval is next to the very windy Port Phillip Bay, so at times the ground can get very windy. If this happens this weekend, whoever adapts quickest will come out on top.
Western Bulldogs vs Carlton
Sunday at 11am
Whitten Oval
The two disappointments of 2022 battle it out on Sunday in the hope of earning another desperately needed win. These two teams find themselves in a very similar situation to the Port Melbourne vs North Melbourne match.
The evenness of the competition this season means that no team is really out of contention yet, but after poor starts to the season both these sides need to start winning some games, and fast. Neither side have been very convincing this season but have shown glimpses, and will need to bring that this weekend.
Southern Saints vs Darebin
Sunday at 12pm
Trevor Barker Oval
Another intriguing clash wraps up the action this weekend. The Southern Saints were competitive for three quarters against Hawthorn last weekend, but ultimately could not get the chocolates.
They come up against a Darebin side who after a good run of form came up short against North Melbourne last round. This will be a huge test for both sides. It will be a great indicator of where both sides are at, and potentially how far they will go this season.
Darebin should get some huge inclusions this week, with Nicole Callinan, Stephanie Simpson and even potentially Angelica Gogos all in line to return, which will certainly help.
