IN a weekly piece throughout the AFL Women’s season, we name the players and teams who will be looking to have a big week in the upcoming round. From underperforming sides to players looking to step up or continue their form, Big Week For highlights those who could be ones to watch over the weekend.

GWS & Carlton

These two are clumped together simply because they are each others’ opponents this weekend, and both need a big lift in Round 6.

Both are coming off bad losses last weekend, and their seasons could soon slip away quickly. A win for either side this time out would get their campaign back on track and keep their faint hopes of finals alive.

Erin Phillips

Erin Phillips makes this list not because she is out of form, but for who she has to face this week.

The inaugural AFL Showdown arrives, pitting the champion’s current side in Port Adelaide up against her old side, Adelaide.

Phillips is no doubt set for some extra attention this week from her former teammates, so the question is how will she deal with this extra attention?

Fremantle

Ravaged by injury, it is safe to say Season 7 has certainly has not gone Fremantle’s way.

But in a rare bit of positive news, the Dockers are finally on the winners list after downing West Coast last week.

This week’s challenge is certainly a lot more difficult – the Dockers face the Dees – but getting a win here is just as important for the Dockers to essentially kickstart their season and push for the back-end of the top eight.

Lexi Hamilton

Much like Phillips, Lexi Hamilton makes this list not because she is out of form, but because of who she has to face this week.

Her Sydney Swans come up against one of her two former sides in North Melbourne this week, in what should be an interesting experience for the versatile tall.

She got the cut after two outings with the Kangaroos, so would likely love nothing more than to have a good performance against her old side and really prove that North Melbourne’s loss is Sydney’s gain.

Hawthorn

In what must have felt a long time coming for Hawks fans, they finally broke through for their first ever AFLW win last week, downing fellow expansion side Sydney.

This week is a big one for them because they need to build on that inaugural win and keep the momentum going.

They face West Coast who themselves have had an up and down season, but Hawthorn has to take the confidence and momentum from last week and keep building on it to draw positives out of a difficult maiden campaign.
