Kate Newson stands as the tallest player to receive an AFLW Draft Combine invite, measuring in at 188cm and she is able to use that height and strong frame to dictate positioning at stoppages. At the National Championships, the South Fremantle tall averaged 22 hitouts per game, recording 14 more hitouts than her nearest rival.

Her game is underpinned by that element, and the trade off from being so physical and aggressive is that athletic side of her game. The way she plays, Newson does not need that athletic element as much as some others, and instead focuses on other aspects such as developing her fundamentals and footy IQ further. Coming into the season she identified learning as much as possible to add extra layers to her game and continue to further her work around the ground.

In the contest, Newson is able to bully smaller opponents with her strength and aggressive nature, and that assists in her midfielders winning the ball thanks to her team-oriented actions. While still raw in terms of her development, talls take time and she will continue to hone her craft to get better at whatever level that may be.
