Stone and Lang lead RMC Medal

EASTERN Ranges midfielder Laura Stone and GWV Rebels defender Millie Lang are tied at the top of the Rookie Me Central Medal leaderboard after six rounds of Coates Talent League Girls action. In a competitive start to the season, 12 players have already reached double-figure votes, with 87 players earning a vote at some point in the opening six rounds.

Stone did not enter the competition until Round 3 but picked up two best on grounds, as well as four and three votes in her other game to total up to 17. Lang reached the same amount in her debut season for the Rebels, having one best on ground effort and three four-vote performances.

The pair are two votes clear of Calder Cannons’ Kayley Kavanagh who had an equally strong start with 13 votes in her first three games, before a heavy loss saw the midfielder only able to collect two more. Geelong Falcons duo Chloe Adams and Sara Howley, and Tasmania Devils forward Georgia Clark are all on 14 votes, with the latter having only played three games.

Eastern Ranges forward Alyssia Pisano is in outright seventh just four votes off her teammate Stone, and Lang, with Oakleigh Chargers bottom-ager Sarah Poustie sitting in eighth on 12 votes. Three of the next four players are also 2006-born with Sierra Grieves (11 votes) and Lucia Painter and Zoe Hargreaves (10 votes each). The other is top-age AFLW Academy member Lila Keck on 10 votes.

Others not far off the Top 10 are Oakleigh Chargers forward Emma McDonald and Western Jets defender Lou-Lou Field who are both on nine votes. Club leaders who are not in that range are Asha Turner Funk (Swans Academy) and GIANTS Academy duo Cleo Buttifant and Melanie Staunton. Gippsland Power young gun Ash Centra (six votes) leads her club’s voting. Dandenong Stingrays duo Jemma Reynolds and Mikayla Williamson also sit on six votes.

Lower down the order, two of the winless sides in Murray Bushrangers and Sandringham Dragons have shared their votes around with five players all on three votes, two from the Bushrangers and three from the Dragons. Holly Egan and Kloe McElhinney are the equal leading vote-getters for the Bushrangers, with Dragons trio, Daisy Flockart, Scout Howden and Shaedyn Aylen leading the way for the metropolitan club.
