Port Adelaide is blessed with developable club-tied talent this year and father-son prospect Louie Montgomery is among them. The son of 2004 premiership player Brett is a high half-back who has the athletic profile and versatility to play in each third of the ground, and has done so over the journey.

Montgomery is powerfully built and has an array explosive traits. His aerial ability is aided by a spring-heeled vertical leap, which sees him soar to intercept down back or rise for speccies up forward. His burst of speed is useful when transitioning the ball, while his agility makes him a potential midfielder down the line, or dangerous forward 50 craftsman.

Typically, Montgomery has utilised his gifts to be an attacking rebound defender who loves to run-and-carry. While he can add composure to his high-octane style, he generally gains plenty of metres and has the ability to win back whatever turnovers he causes. His upside is considerable and he certainly catches the eye on first glance.

Although, Montgomery has hardly been able to showcase his traits with continuity due to injury setbacks. He is often sidelined during preseason or at one point in the year, so hopefully he can gain some consistency in his training at the elite level. When he does, the rewards will show on-field. Port Adelaide will already have had a good look at him during his time in the SANFL Rookie program.
