Highgate Recreation Reserve | @ 7:30pm
FORM:
Western Jets enter the match with their best chance of a win so far, having had some serious chances but often fading out in different moments. They come in with far more match practice than the Northern Territory Academy, which is playing its first match of the 2024 Coates Talent League Girls season.
KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Western Jets:
All eyes will be on big ball-winner Sierra Grieves who has been in ripping form this season. With the match likely to be an open affair, Grieves is a player who could put up a record number of disposals, and more importantly guide her side to a win. Alex McBride-Loane will play a key role between defence and ruck, while Vic Metro Under 16s’ Kiara Boyd is one of two debutants in the team. Winger Charlotte Miller and defender Ellie Pawlowski are among others who have the potential to make an impact.
Northern Territory Academy:
The Northern Territory always has some classy talents and this year is headlined by Palmerston Magpies co-captain and AFLW Academy member Tatyana Perry. She will team up well with Emma Stark who will play for her third side in as many weeks after representing Oakleigh Chargers and then Collingwood VFLW in the past fortnight. Amber Wunungmurra got a taste of high-level junior action in last year’s AFLW Under 17 Futures match, while over-agers Kierra Zerafa and Grace Whittaker have had state league action this year. Watch for bottom-ager Marika Carlton as one to remember for 2025.
PREDICTION
With more match practice and experience this season, the Western Jets should crack through for their first win. The Territory team showed it can be more than competitive in the past, and have some genuine draftable prospects this year. However a first up win is always tough, but it could be a tight game.
