State leagues junior football wrap – July 18/19

SANFL:

In the SANFL seniors Kyle Presbury continued to impress for Central Districts with 12 touches and a goal, while on the other side, Will Snelling worked hard all day for 27 touches and six clearances. Aaron Francis also had 10 disposals and five marks, popping up for two goals when swung forward. Jack Agostino was reliable down back with 17 touches marred by the occasional turnover while Hugh Haysman was quiet with only eight disposals. For North Adelaide Kahlin Santillo popped up for a goal among six disposals while the underaged Northern Territorian Brandon Parfitt had 17 disposals in an impressive debut.

In the SANFL reserves, Riley Bonner continued to impress and might be nearing a league debut, accumulating 19 disposals and one goal with a couple of behinds in a losing side. Bonner started in defence and then moved to the midfield where he lifted his game – showing versatility that could impress recruiters. For Centrals, Isaya McKenzie had 21 disposals at 90 per cent efficiency and Brendan Dew had 19 at 89 per cent efficiency while also popping up for a goal. The highlight of the day however was Wayne Milera with 26 disposals, six marks and five inside 50s in a performance that could expedite his return to the seniors.

In a side that was comfortably beaten, Norwood youngster Matthew Nunn continued his good form with 26 disposals and five clearances, assisted by Peter Bampton’s 25 touches, nine tackles and eight clearances. Luke Surman also impressed in the ruck, with 13 touches, 40 hitouts and seven clearances. For North Adelaide Stephen Tahana was again quiet with eight disposals however again impressed with eight tackles, while Oleg Markov popped up for three goals among eleven disposals and six marks. Underaged Jack Graham returned from suspension in the reserves and was a little quieter than he would have liked, with only 11 disposals, however his hard at it approach resulted in 11 tackles. Mark Quinn was reasonable with 12 touches and a goal, while Will Combe too was reasonable on the inside with 11 touches and seven clearances. The star of the day however was Maris Olekalns, an outside forward flanker who has flown under the radar. Olekalns had 16 disposals at 88 per cent, seven marks, four inside 50s and topped it off with five goals and two behinds in a performance that’ll draw some attention to him after a quiet championships.

In the Maccas Cup under 18s, Jake Comitogianni continued his good form back in the juniors, with 30 disposals and shapes up as one to watch next year. For Glenelg, Matt Allen responded to a demotion well, with 20 disposals, 11 marks and five goals. The only negative was five behinds indicating his radar was a little misplaced. For North Adelaide, underaged ruckman Jordon Sweet impressed around the ground with 15 disposals and five marks, but was beaten in the ruck by Andre Parella. Keiran Agius went some way to returning to form with 20 touches, seven marks and six inside 50s, however inaccuracy cost him with three goals and six behinds. The underaged Dakota Nixon had a great game with 32 touches and 11 clearances while in exciting news for Adelaide and Hawthorn fans, Ben Jarman again excelled with 28 touches at 93 per cent efficiency as well as 10 marks, five clearances and two goals.

WAFL:

In the WAFL, Callum Ah Chee made his league debut for South Fremantle and was very impressive, with 14 disposals, nine marks and three goals – a highlight after a quiet championships. While in the WAFL reserves, Declan Mountford has 25 touches for Claremont and Bailey Rogers 19 in reasonable performances. For Swan Districts, Levi Ridley was quiet with only 11 disposals while for the other side, Clint Hinchcliffe was busy with 24. For South Fremantle Kade Stewart had a good game with 17 disposals and five inside 50s.

In the Colts, Jake Waterman continued his good form with 20 touches, eight marks, six inside 50s and two goals in a losing side while Josh Schoenfeld had 21 touches and two goals for Peel Thunder. Underaged Noah Hura also had 24 touches and nine marks an a solid performance. For East Perth, talented underager Sam Powell-Pepper had 14 touches while Jake Florenca had 16 touches for South Fremantle. Luke Strnadica was busy for East Fremantle with 3 goals from seven marks, assisted by Jordan Snadden who had 22 touches. Thomas Bennett was quiet with 12 touches, while Cameron Zurhaar, another to watch next year, was busy with 15 disposals, six marks and a goal. For Swan Districts, Dylan Smith was reasonably quiet with 11 touches and a goal while Jesse Glass-McCasker was a little more lively with 11 and two goals. Jack Watson was reasonable with 20 touches and John Shaw quiet with nine.

VFL:

In the VFL, Josh Dunkley continued his reasonable form for Richmond with 13 disposals, five tackles and a goal while on debut, Ben Crocker kicked a goal from 10 disposals for Port Melbourne. Another debut saw James Parsons accumulate 15 disposals in a victorious Box Hill side, while Matthew Johnston had nine touches and 11 tackles for North Ballarat.

NEAFL:

In the NEAFL, Callum Mills made his long awaited return from a shin injury, ending up with 20 touches while Mabior Chol got a taste of the big time for Aspley and finished with 10 touches and 17 hitouts playing predominantly through the ruck. For the NT Thunder, Michael Hagan had 13 touches and a goal to continue his good form. For Redland, Wylie Buzza was quiet with only eight touches and a behind while nobody from the Gold Coast academy impressed despite being given an opportunity. For the UWS Giants Harrison Himmelberg had 12 touches and kicked a goal while Jock Cornell had 10 disposals and three behinds.

For Brisbane’s reserves, Eric Hipwood was reasonable with 17 touches, seven marks and two behinds, while Isaac Corvo had 16 disposals in a losing side. Nick Weller had 12 touches while Reuben William didn’t repeat last week’s effort, being restricted to only 13 disposals.
