2024 AFLW Week 8 Preview: Friday

TONIGHT’S AFLW action is between a pair of sides in quite the tight tussle for the bottom half of the eight, and would love nothing more than a win tonight to make their run to a potential inaugural finals campaign that much easier.

Recent form

Port Adelaide is currently on a three match winning streak, and will be certainly hoping to make it four in a row tonight.

St Kilda meanwhile have not had the most ideal last month or so, and will be looking to get things back on track tonight.

Last time they met

Tonight will be the third official meeting between the sides, but the first time Port has hosted a match between the sides for premiership points.

When these two met last season, it was the Power who prevailed by eight points after coming from being behind at three quarter time to take the win.

Key stat areas

Both sides way prefer to kick the ball than handball it, but neither side has been strong at marking it inside their attacking 50s this season.

Port Adelaide has been less efficient with both their disposal and while inside 50 so far this season compared to their opponents they face tonight, but do have the advantage when it comes to both hit outs and clearances, which considering the side St Kilda is plying with tonight could become crucial.

Key match up/s

With both Rene Caris and Simone Nalder left out of the side this week, there is a lot of pressure on young Emmelie Fiedler’s shoulders to shoulder a large percentage of the ruck duties tonight, especially with no obvious second ruck choice in the side.

What makes her job even harder is that her main opponent tonight is one of the bet young rucks in the competition Matilda Scholz, who will get a chop out from the likes of Olivia Levicki.
