ONLY nine fresh faces have been given opportunities via the 2024 AFL Rookie Draft, after a bumper crop saw 71 players selected in the National intake across Wednesday and Thursday. Of the 24 picks, 13 were used to re-list players, while two delisted youngsters found new homes.

Toby Pink went first off the board as North Melbourne’s sole selection – a re-listing – while former Fremantle ruck Max Knobel was the first live selection as Gold Coast cut in ahead of the Dockers. Former-Saint Ben Paton will also don new threads after his name was called out by Sydney.

Bendigo Pioneers forward Archer Day-Wicks was the first junior to be picked up, with Essendon’s pick five. Geelong was busiest with three selections, including a pair of local Falcons products in midfielder-forward Xavier Ivisic and ruck Joe Pike.

A handful of club-tied players were also pre-listed as Category B rookies out of their respective clubs’ academies. Only two selections were made in the Pre-Season Draft, with Hawthorn having committed to Jack Gunston, while Brisbane signed delisted Sun, Sam Day.
