Top 10s | 2025 Girls Preseason Testing – Western Australia

THE FIRST of the AFLW Draft Preseason State Testing events is done and dusted with Western Australia’s young stars put to the test earlier this month at the Gold Netball Centre. Among the top performers were Claremont’s Ella Gilbey and Swan Districts’ Indiana West who finished among the top few in each of the running or jumping tests.

Gilbey recorded the highest standing and running vertical jumps at 59cm and 72cm respectively, with West getting on the podium for standing (56cm). Subiaco pair Hali Epis and Macy Fair also tested well in the jumping component alongside West Perth’s Hayley Bidefeld.

West got the upper hand in the 20m sprint however, clocking a blistering combine-high of 3.209 seconds. She finished just ahead of National Academy member Alicia Blizard (3.225 seconds), as well as Gilbey, triple bottom-ager Indi Slocombe and Fair rounding out the top five.

Gilbey was the only player to clock under 8.4 seconds in the agility test with a score of 8.357 seconds, just edging out fellow top-age State Academy member Maya Louvel-Finn (8.427 seconds) who also finished Top 10 in the 20m sprint. Swan District’s Khalia Fawcett and ex-Peel now Perth over-ager Jorja Haines – still eligible to Fremantle as a father-daughter selection – also recording sub-8.5-second times.

One player stood alone in the yo-yo test with mature-ager Jess Verbrugge outlasting her peers with a level of 16.08. The 20-year-old finished ahead of Swan Districts’ Naomi Baker and Claremont’s Coco Bennett a level behind on 16.07.
